The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority ( UKAEA ) was incorporated as a statutory corporation in 1954 and pioneered the development of nuclear energy in the UK.
Today they are responsible for managing the decommissioning of the nuclear reactors and other radioactive facilities used for the UK's nuclear research and development programme in a safe and environmentally sensitive manner. Culham, Oxfordshire, is a purposebuilt laboratory for the UK Fusion programme, set up in 1960 on a former Fleet Air Arm Airfield, and occupying approximately 180 acres. Over recent years the site has expanded and diversified and in 1978 became the host to the European `flagship' fusion project ( JET ).

Great service for the local area |

New Café Xpress coffee bar |
OCS successfully tendered for the catering in 2000 to provide services to the 1600 staff based on site and to market and cater for the purpose built conference centre and lecture theatre on site. OCS invested in the installation of their foodhouse concepts and immediately saw an upturn in sales.
At the same time a new Café Xpress coffee bar opened to become a social and business hub for the staff on site. For those in a hurry there is also a busy retail shop. Let?s face it, when you are working on nuclear fusion programmes, taking a break in comfortable surroundings wth great food and service is essential! |

The Culham Conference Centre can accomodate for a variety of events from 6 to 233 delegates. From an intimate meeting to a large open conference or even an exhibition. The Conference Centre offers seven purpose-built conference rooms.
